Cougar Snapshots: Friday Night Lights at LES

TotalblueSports.com photographer Troy Verde was on hand at LaVell Edwards Stadium to capture the Cougars in action during BYU’s scrimmage last Friday night. Now you can check out some of the action as it was captured on film.

The battle between offense and defense is a constant tug of war in an effort to improve. While both the defense and offense were limited in their play calling, due to it being an open practice for the public, the action was still thrilling as big runs were made, passes were completed, and tackles made.

Jherremya Leuta-Douyere has had a quiet but very successful fall camp. Playing at the buck linebacker position, Leuta-Douyere is a beast in the run game and a menace as a pass rusher whenever he is moved to the wheel linebacker position.

When Zac Stout is in the middle the defense instantly becomes his namesake. Stout is one of the best in the box when it comes to defending the run and he’s also adept in pass defense underneath.

Here Stout makes quick work of a receiver coming over the middle.

On the defensive line Graham Rowley has made an impact after returning home from a mission during the offseason. Here Rowley beats the offensive linemen and makes the tackle for a loss on a running back just as he receives the handoff.

The referee holds his hands up signaling a touchdown for Devin Mahina. Mahina looks to play a big part of the offense this year playing from a traditional tight end position.

Ului Lapuaho at left tackle could see a lot of playing time this season. Lapuaho has the ability to become one of the better offensive tackles in the nation by the time he’s a senior in college.

UTEP transfer Jordan Leslie is targeted for the reception. An experienced athlete, Leslie will play a major role in the Cougar offense this season. Here he makes a reception in front of safety Sky PoVey.

Defensive lineman Tanner Balderee is double-teamed by two BYU offensive linemen.

Jordan Leslie goes up to make the catch in front of his fellow teammates. Coach Tujague holds his hands up in the air in anticipation as Leslie goes up for the grab.

Here Leslie comes down with the pass next to the sideline.

Leslie turns up field as Adam Hine cheers him on.

Once a highly recruited offensive lineman, Brayden Kearsley jogs out onto the field to get ready to rumble.

A converted defensive tackle, Josh Carter is now a staple on the Cougar defensive line. Here he strips the ball away from Nate Carter. Carter has done well for himself this fall camp.

From walk-on to contributor, wide receiver Kurt Henderson has steadily improved over the past couple of years to help the Cougar offense. Here Henderson celebrates after making a great catch for the touchdown.

Nose tackle Kesni Tausinga beats the block to make the tackle on Nate Carter. Tausinga should develop into a contributor across the defensive line this season.
