Starting both ways is not uncommon in high school football, but only a few special players see time at multiple positions on both sides of the ball in a single game. Those lucky few athletes who advance to the Division I ball are recruited to fill one need at one position. Occasionally a rare talent comes along who can be a utility player even at the elite D-I level.
