“I’m very excited about my official visit,” said Richard Wilson, who has been committed to BYU since early October. “I’ve been waiting for this for a long time. I can’t wait to be there with all the committed guys along with meeting all the ones who are still deciding.”
Like most fans, Wilson and the other committed recruits are anxious to meet Manti Te’o, the top linebacker recruit nationally according to many services. Te’o flew in late Thursday night for his official visit.
“I want to meet Manti and convince him to sign here," said Wilson. “I’ve heard all about him and I know that he’s a great player. I want to sit down with him, get to know him and get him here to be my teammate.”
While on their visit the recruits will tour the campus and football facilities; meet with advisors, coaches and current players; eat a lot of good food and learn about BYU in earnest. The highlight, however, is likely to be a snowmobiling excursion that past recruits have raved about.
“Oh, I’m excited for that," said Wilson. “I went snowmobiling a long time ago, so I probably lost a lot of my game there, but yeah, I’m real excited for that.”
Committed recruits such as Wilson have long been sold on BYU, but are excited to take any opportunity to be around the Cougar coaches again, as well as the school where they’ll spend the next four-to-five years of their life.
“I love BYU," said Wilson. “I love the coaches, the facilities, the players, the tradition, everything. I love being there and I look at this weekend as an opportunity for me to get to know my new teammates better along with convincing some other top recruits like Manti and X [Xavier Su'afilo] to come here.”
