Charity Event to Honor Ed Hood and Jason Long

Posted Aug 19, 2008

The following announcement is for the First Annual Ed Hood/Jason Long Memorial Charity Golf Tournament. Ed Hood, who recently passed away due to congestive heart failure, was a great Cougar fan and member of the Total Blue Sports family. Jason Long, meanwhile, was a BYU football recruit that passed away from leukemia last year.

Ed Hood's obituary can be seen here. As for Jason Long, you can read about his story here, here and here.

This announcement comes from TBS member Gene A Slater (Slatecoug).

First Annual Ed Hood/Jason Long Memorial Charity Golf Tournament

When: September 12, 2008

Where: Cedar Hills Golf Course

What Time: 9:00 a.m. Shotgun Start

Type: Four Man Scramble

Cost: $250/foursome, $65/single

We have finally put together a golf tourney for all the TBS and Cougar Blue faithful. We will have the Cedar Hills Golf Course all to ourselves. Check in will be at 8 a.m. Each participant receives: a light breakfast, large bucket of balls per foursome to warm up, round of golf (we have two closest to the pin, and two longest drive holes on the course), and lunch afterwards. Prizes will be awarded to the winning foursome in each category. We will have a novice category, and an experienced category. Novices are those with an 11-and-over handicap. If you don't know where you fall, email/boardmail me and I will help you out with that. We will be having a charity auction after the event during lunch. We are working on getting out some famous Cougar alums to attend the event. There may even be an opportunity to play with a few of them in your foursome. We will be accepting a total of 36 foursomes. If you don't have a foursome, that's okay. We will be matching up single golfers for the event. Make sure you email/boardmail me to reserve your spot as soon as possible. I already had commitments on four foursomes before this was written. Funds will be due by Sep. 1, 2008. You can pay by check or credit card. For those wishing to pay by credit card, you will need to email/boardmail me.

This will be a great time for all. If you want to attend, but aren't a golfer, the cost is $20 and that gets you into the luncheon and auction.

I know we will all have a great time, but I want to let everyone know the main reason for doing this. As you know by the names of the event, we are honoring the lives of two great men. Both were huge Cougar fans, but even more importantly, both were true disciples of Christ. They both thought of others long before they worried about themselves. The funds we raise for this event will go to the Jason Long Foundation and All Poly Sports. Most of us Coug fans are familiar with All Poly Sports and the incredible work Alema Te'o does for many young men. For those of you that don't know about the Jason Long Foundation, they work with the Huntsman Cancer Research Institute, and they also hope to begin providing football scholarships at the Y in the name of Jason Long. I am sure that every one of us has known someone near and dear that has fought cancer, maybe even you. Come out and support this first-time event so that we can make it an annual event.

If you have any questions, please boardmail me or email me at: geneandjamie@msn.com.

Thank you for all your support.

Sincerely,

Gene A Slater (Slatecoug)

P.S. Please let me know if you are going to be a single or part of a foursome.
