Chris Washington from Northridge High School made his way down to Provo to gather with most of the top instate football recruits to meet with Tom Lemming and others. Washington is a 6-foot-2-inch, 190-pound safety prospect who is receiving increased attention, although he’s still waiting for that first official offer. Washington is hopeful and confident that offers will be coming soon.

BYU, Boise State, Utah, New Mexico and Oregon State are the schools I’ve been hearing from,” said Chris Washington during Monday’s event. “None of those schools have offered me, but I’m hearing some good things from them.”

Most of Washington’s attention has been provided by the BYU coaching staff early on. Washington met with Cougar coaches again Monday and has met with them during this past Junior Day amid other contact.

“I like BYU,” mentioned Washington. “I’ve had a lot of contact with them and I’m definitely going to their camp this summer. I met with the coaches [Monday] and they just wanted to know how I was doing, touch base and all that stuff.”

Washington has also been courted heavily by Utah and has attended many of their recruiting functions.

“I’ve been to their Junior Day as well, and I like Utah,” said Washington. “I’ve had a lot of conversations with their coaches as well. I’ll probably go to their camp this summer as well.”

Washington has received phone calls from Boise State coaches and letters and emails from coaches at both Oregon State and New Mexico.

Washington measures in at 6 feet 2 inches and 190 pounds and plays both safety and receiver for Northridge. Although he plays two positions, Washington considers himself as a prospect to play defense at the next level.

“I love defense,” said Washington. “I consider myself more of a defensive player. I feel that my size is my biggest asset in playing safety. I’m bigger than most guys and I use that to my advantage. I love to hit and I love to get physical.”

Washington is very much wide open in regards to which school he’ll eventually sign with. He cited Oregon as being his dream school growing up, but he doesn’t want to limit his options.

“I like a lot of the PAC-10 schools, but I also like the schools here locally like BYU,” mentioned Washington. “Hopefully I get some offers here soon, so I can then decide better. I just want to go to a school where I feel comfortable and that has a top football program right now.”
