Prospects Set For Junior Day

Everything has been accelerated in regards to recruiting since Bronco Mendenhall took the reins of the Cougar football program. Every year the process gets going earlier and earlier, to the point where the first Junior Day will actually be held this Saturday, a full week and a half before Letter of Intent Signing Day for the 2008 class. So who will be making their way to Provo on Saturday?

At a minimum, 50 topflight prospects will be making their way to BYU to participate in Junior Day activities. It will be a chance for these prospects to get to show their talents while working out for a day on various skills to improve themselves for the coming season.

Most of the prospects at the one-day camp will be in-state athletes. Every top prospect in the state is expected at the camp.

Timpview High School will obviously be well-represented, as they’ve risen to the top of the local prep ranks. Leading the group from Timpview will be Cougar commit Craig Bills, along with top prospects Xavier Suafilo and Tui Crichton. Suafilo mentioned to TBS last week that as many as 10 Timpview players will be participating.

Bingham High School will be sending about five prospects, including top in-state linebacker prospect L.T. Filiaga, along with quarterback Jake Soffe, receiver Mike Edmunds and lineman Talai Livai.

Top defensive line recruit Latu Heimuli from Highland High School will be making it down for the one-day camp. In a conversation earlier this week, Heimuli mentioned that he’ll be accompanied by at least four of his teammates.

Other top in-state prospects expected to attend include offensive line prospect John Martinez from Cottonwood, Spanish Fork tight end/linebacker prospect Richard Wilson, and Snow Canyon running back Adam Timo.

Several out-of-state prospects will be in attendance, including top Idaho linebacker prospect Darren Markle. TBS will follow the day’s activities and let you know of any significant happenings during the one-day camp.
