Senior linebacker Kelly Poppinga was named the Mountain West Conference Defensive Player of the Week for his performance during the TCU game. Poppinga recorded a career-high 17 tackles, which is the most by a Cougar in a single game since Rob Morris, now with the NFL’s Colts, registered 17 against SDSU in 1998.

Linebacker Kelly Poppinga had a phenomenal game against TCU. According to a BYU press release, he recorded 11 tackles on plays that had a net gain of five yards or less. Nine of those tackles were for four yards or less, and six tackles were for three yards or less. On top of his tackling performance, Poppinga also intercepted Andy Dalton and returned that interception 22 yards.

Total Blue Sports caught up with Poppinga to talk about his game performance against one of the toughest and more complete Division I football teams the Cougars have faced this season.
