Unlike the Cougar offense, BYU's defense young and unproven. Consequently, many position battles will be fought in the weeks to come as only two of the 11 starting defensive spots are locked down. All three starting positions on the defensive line are wide open, and the G-man takes a look at who could fill them.

Solidifying the Middle The focal point of Bronco Mendenhall's three-man line is the nose tackle. Success for the man in the middle is not gauged by the number of tackles and sacks he makes, but by how well he holds his position.
