Robbie Buckner from Ashdown, Arkansas made BYU look very smart with his performance this season. The 5’11, 170 lbs safety put up big numbers his senior year.
Buckner was offered a scholarship early from BYU and he accepted.
“Our team went 12-2,” Buckner said. “We lost by a touchdown in the state semi-finals.”
Buckner played running back and strong safety for his team.
“I had 992 yards rushing and 15 touchdowns,” Buckner said. “At safety I had 102 tackles and six interceptions.”
Buckner was named first team all-state on defense. His team is 3-A which is the middle division in Arkansas. He was also one of three finalists for the AAA Defensive Player of the Year award.
“I was also first team all-region,” Buckner said.
Robbie said BYU still calls every week, and he is fully committed to going to BYU.
“Coach Grimes and Mithchell have come out to see me,” Buckner said. “I will be visiting Provo January 6th. My mom and I went out for the Utah game and I saw some other recruits when I was out there. I’ve tried to catch as many games as I could on TV this year too.”
Buckner said he is excited to get to BYU, and will arrive in July.
“I want to put on a little weight before I get to BYU,” Buckner said.
Robbie said that the coaches told him that he most likely will see the field his first year with out a red shirt.
In the first round play off game this year Robbie had two interceptions to seal the game for his team. Fans should be really excited about this player. He is just what the doctor ordered.
