Griffin, who will sign a Letter of Intent Feb. 4 since he graduates in May, will join teammate Todd Watkins in an impressive junior college recruiting class haul that already includes two other standout receivers in Michael Morris, a 6-1, 190-pound receiver from Itawamba Community College (Miss.); and Riley Weber, a 6-1, 180 pound receiver from Glendale Community College.
"Todd and I didn't think early in the season we'd have the opportunity to play together. It's pretty cool and actually quite amazing. I spoke with him earlier today and he's really excited to get going. So am I," Griffin said.
He added that "it's going to be awesome to have Todd there. We helped each other get better all year. To have him again as a teammate and friend at BYU is going to be great. We're going to have fun.
Speaking of fun, Griffin noted he was aware and fully informed about BYU's stringent Honor Code. As a non-LDS player, he said, "It's a good thing for me. It keeps you away from outside influences and I like that. I know it's going to be a different adjustment (in Provo), but if you go to school for that kind of stuff (partying), then BYU is not the place for you.
"My main goal, first and foremost, is to get my BYU degree. I'm going to be focused on my education and BYU is the right place to do that. I want to use this as a stepping stone to get to the next level on and off the field," Griffin continued.
He said his family "agrees that BYU is a great school to go for an education and football. They support me 100 percent in my decision."
Griffin, who recently completed his sophomore season with 47 catches for 901 yards and seven touchdowns, credited his BYU recruiter Lance Reynolds, the Cougars offensive line coach. "He's just a great guy and a great overall person. He's honest and straight forward. That's what attracted me to him."
Like Watkins, he was not promised a starting spot and is fully aware of the keen competition he will face next fall. "I want to come in and contribute right away. I feel I have the skills to make a difference.
"I'm really looking forward to finishing at Grossmont and getting there (Provo) to get started. I can't wait. I'm ready to go."
